Rolex: A Rare Stainless Steel Automatic Calendar Centre Seconds Wristwatch with Orange 24-hour indicator hand, signed Rolex, Oyster Perpetual Date, Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified, model: Explorer II, ref: 1655, 1980, (calibre 1570) lever movement signed and numbered D227912, adjusted to five positions and temperature, matte finished black dial with triangle and baton hour and minute markers, date aperture, orange luminous 24-hour indicator hand, protected screw down crown, fixed 24-hour bezel, screw back stamped inside with maker's mark Montres Rolex S.A Geneva Switzerland and numbered 1655, case serial number 6251501, Rolex stainless steel oyster bracelet with a fliplock deployant clasp numbered 93150 and date code J6 for 1985, end links numbered 580, with Rolex box

The 1655 was produced between 1971-1984. This watch reference is known by watch collectors as the "Steve McQueen watch", which was made famous by the American actor during an advert for this Rolex model in the 1970s period. Collectors also refer to this particular model as the "freccione", which is the Italian word for arrow, alluding to its iconic 24-hour indicator orange hand.

Case and bracelet with surface scratches, case sides with small dents in parts, bezel with small scuff marks in parts, bezel with some black missing to the 24-hour markers, some pitting marks around the serial and reference numbers between the lugs, plexi glass with scratches and very minor chips to the outer edge between 2 and 4 o'clock position, bracelet links are stretched in parts, some bracelet central links are slightly worn to the corners, bracelet clasp with Rolex logo is worn and just visible, original dial finish with some small staining marks around the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and next to the date aperture, dial hour and minute markers are clear and visible but the luminous is missing to the hour markers, hands with luminous discoloured, movement in going order. Bracelet length including watch case is 21cm long approximately.

Auction: Fine Jewellery, Watches & Silver, 15th Jul, 2023

A Chalcedony, Sapphire and Diamond Flower Brooch by Suzanne Belperron, one of the most original and influential jewellery designers of the 20th century, is to be offered in the Fine Jewellery, Watches and Silver Sale. The brooch is the Property of a Lady, who was given it on her wedding day in 1952 by the Italian noblewoman Marchesa Maria Nunziate di Mignano. From the same vendor comes an Art Deco Diamond Bracelet, and amongst a host of other glittering jewels in the sale is a Diamond Cluster Ring featuring a fancy intense yellow cut-cornered rectangular diamond. 

Fine vintage and luxury watches include a rare Rolex 'Single Red Line' Submariner, a 1982 Patek Philippe Caltrava, and a limited edition Breitling Bentley. The silver section of the sale is led by a remarkable 18 carat gold three-piece George VI Café au Lait Service made by E. Silver and Co.  of Sheffield in 1947, and a fine pair of George II Provincial Silver Candlesticks, made in 1746 and 1747 by James Kirkup of Newcastle.
