Omega: A Rare "Ed White" Pre-Moon Stainless Steel Chronograph Wristwatch, signed Omega, model: Speedmaster, so called by collectors "Ed White", ref: 105.003, 1965, (calibre 321) lever movement signed and numbered 25446519, column wheel chronograph, dust cover, matte finished black dial with luminous baton markers, outer fifth of seconds track, three dials for seconds, 30 minute and 12 hour registers, buttons in the band to operate the chronograph, black tachymeter bezel, screw back with the Speedmaster Sea Horse logo, inside back cover stamped Omega Watch Co and numbered 105.003-65, Omega stainless steel bracelet with a deployant clasp numbered 1479, with Omega boxes, original guarantee booklet, instruction booklets and two spare bracelet links
39mm wide

The pre-moon Speedmaster reference 105.003 is colloquially referred to as the "Ed White" Speedmaster because this model type and reference was worn by NASA Astronaut Edward Higgins "Ed" White (1930-1967) when he was the first American to walk in space in 1965.
The reference 105.003 is rare as it was only in production for around three years from 1963 and then superseded by the 'professional' reference version 105.012 which, famously, was worn on the moon landing in 1969. Typical features of the "Ed White" pre-moon Speedmaster are the straight lugs, no crown guards and just signed on the dial Omega Speedmaster without the professional signature.
This example has been in the same ownership since new and comes with the original International guarantee booklet stating its purchase on the 28th.2.1970.
The guarantee booklet is marked with reference number 145.003 which can be seen on other examples in the past from research.
This example reference 105.003 is stamped in the case back of this watch and is identical to reference 145.003.

An impressive 19th century Diamond Bow Brooch is to be offered in the Fine Jewellery, Watches and Silver Sale on 11th November, with an estimate of £12,000-18,000 (plus buyer’s premium). A rare 1977 Rolex Explorer II (ref:1655) leads the fine watches in the sale. Offered with an estimate of £8,000-12,000, the watch is known by collectors at the “Steve McQueen” watch, as it was made famous by the actor in an advertising campaign for the model.

A good cross-section of antique silver in the sale includes a George III Silver Soup Tureen and Cover, made in London in 1761 by Frederick Kandler (estimate: £2,500-3,500). Also on offer is a good selection of animal-themed silver.
