the cushion shaped green tourmaline within a border of old cut diamonds, in white claw settings, to a yellow plain pin, total estimated diamond weight 0.15 carat approximately
length 3.4cm
Mrs Charlotte Isabella Newman (1836-1927) was the first female artist jeweller. She started her career working for leading London jeweller John Brogden.
Sold for £250
Estimated at £150 - £200
The brooch is in fair condition, the surface of the green tourmaline is abraded and the pin appears to have been tested at some point as there is an area of discolouration. It fastens with a pin and C-hook. The pin is stamped 'NEWMAN'. It bears no hallmark but in our opinion would test as gold. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour I/J/K, clarity SI1/SI2/I1. Gross weight 2.5 grams. CR made 23.11.21.
