2 x Early 19th Century Provincial Banknotes comprising: Berwick, Tweed Bank £5, dated 4th April 1831 for Batson, Berry & Langhorn & signed by John Wilson, dividend stamps on obv. a ‘Congreve’ duty stamp on rev. together with a bankruptcy stamp & handwritten date 31 May 1842; ingrained dirt & several small edge tears but no pinholes or large pieces missing VG & Scotland, The East Lothian Banking Company Twenty Shillings (One Pound) Unissued Remainder, (The East Lothian Bank was established in 1810 & failed in 1822 when the Chief Cashier, William Borthwick, disappeared with the Bank’s deposits) ‘Congreve’ duty stamp on rev, several small edge tears, creases & wrinkling & strips of sellotape across top & centre of rev. VG
