Omar Ramsden (1873-1939): An Arts & Crafts Silver Tobacco-Box, London, December 1918 to May 1919, oblong, the hinged cover chased with a ship at sail, the main sail chased with initials 'CRE; and the middle sail chased with a coat-of-arms, further chased with foliage and flowers, all within wavy lines and with twisted wire borders, hallmarked London, 1918, maker's mark OR, further engraved 'Omar Ramsden me Fecit MCMXIX
12.7cm wide by 8.5cm deep, 8oz 8dwt, 262gr

Provenance:
The Lion Collection.

Though marked with the London date letter 'c', which was in use from May 1918 to May 1919 the present box can be more accurately dated to late 1918 to May 1919 as it was not until December 1918 that the partnership between Ramsden and Carr was dissolved and Ramsden was to enter his own mark.

Not Sold
Estimated at £1,500 - £2,500

Fully marked underneath and further part marked on cover. The back engraved 'Omar Ramsden me Fecit MCMXIX'. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a very minor softening to the high points. There is a bruise to the top right corner of the box. The base is slightly domed so the box rocks when placed on a level surface.
