Taxidermy:A Large Cased Anthropomorphic Diorama of Card Playing Red Squirrels, circa 1870-1900, probably Austro-German, six full mount adult red squirrels mounted within a furnished interior, four gathered around a pedestal dining table playing cards, the table centred with a decanter and four glasses, cigars and cribbage board, two further squirrels to the right, one relaxing upon a chaise longue with cigar in hand, the other standing in conversation with cigar in hand, the interior lavishly furnished upon a woven carpet flooring, enclosed within a period single-glass display case with figural pediment, centrally mounted with a carved Stag and Lion masks to each end, 104cm by 49cm by 70.5cm including pediment By repute this diorama came into the current family's possession in lieu of a previous debt owed to their grandfather, it has remained in the same family since the early part of the 20th century, hence never before available on the open auction market before.
