A 20th Century Makonde Njorowe Belly Mask, Tanzania, carved from dark stained soft wood, with pendulant breasts, swollen pregnant stomach with protruding navel, carved with bands of scarification, 57cm

Footnote : - These masks were part of the costume of young male dancers worn when partaking in an initiation ceremony and where they mimed the burdens of pregnancy and giving birth.
