Summer Fine Sale

  Lot 27

An English Hard Paste Porcelain Sauceboat, Plymouth or Bristol, circa 1770, of oval form, moulded with foliate sways, painted with flowersprays within puce highlight, scroll and stiff leaf borders
16cm long

Provenance: Bears paper labels for Peter Stevens as Plymouth and Albert Amor Ltd Exhibition of the Peter Stevens Collection 1978, no.53

For this shape, see Panes (Nicholas) British Porcelain Sauceboats of the 18th Century, pgs.232 and 240 where it is discussed that distinguishing between pieces made under William Cookworthy's ownership can be difficult as similar sauceboat moulds were used at both factories
