Pastel, together with two further watercolour examples possibly by the same hand depicting a bird's nest and Forget-Me-Nots, and a young boy seated atop an animal, 34.5cm by 27cm, 16cm by 22cm and 19.5cm by 15.5cm respectively (3)

Girl: Mounted on old discoloured and damaged paper. Very slight undulations. Minor rubbing at edges, and scratches top centre and a few more minor scratches elsewhere. Slight creases associated with the creases on the supporting paper at the bottom. Pale patch to bottom right corner. A few old dark spotty marks.

Nest: Shallow creases and undulations - see image in raking light. Light timestaining to paper, darker at edges where it has been in contact with the mount. A few light foxing spots, and possible slight muting of colours.

Boy: Slight undulations at top edge. Light timestaining at edges. Old insect remains behind glass.

Auction: The Selected Contents of Bell Hall, 15th Nov, 2024

An eclectic and decorative mixture of antiques and contemporary art will be coming under the hammer this autumn, when the Selected Contents of Bell Hall, Naburn, York, will appear in a single-owner sale at Tennants Auctioneers on 15th November.

The collection was put together over several decades, and draws together good period oak furniture, folk art, 19th century samplers, and Asian art alongside modern and contemporary paintings, ceramics and works of art, many pieces with an animal theme.
