A Walnut Veneered Striking Bracket Clock, signed Delander, London, circa 1750, inverted bell top case with carrying handle and acorn finials, pierced side sound frets, pull repeat cord, 7-inch arch brass dial with a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, dial centre signed, mock pendulum and date apertures, arch with strike/silent selection, twin fusee movement with an anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell, 50cm high over handle, with the original walnut veneered wall bracket, 20cm high see illustration Provenance: Lord Cornwallis by descent This example signed Delander will be by Nathaniel Delander the son of the famous clockmaker Daniel Delander. Nathaniel carried on his father's business when he died in 1733 and he was a highly respected clockmaker. He is recorded as working in the Royal Exchange in 1730 and Fleet St in 1755. He became Master of the Clockmakers Company in 1747 and died in 1762.

14.06.21 Case with cracks to the veneers in parts, some chips to the edges, front door lock escutcheon is missing, right hand side moulding has come loose to the base and needs re-securing, back door outer beading is loose in parts, metal mounts are discoloured, dial is discoloured in parts, back door is closed and needs a key, no key present, movement with escapement converted from verge to an anchor escapement, wall bracket with veneer lacking in parts and with cracks and veneers are lifting in parts.
