An English Porcelain Plaque, painted by John Powell, circa 1810, with the Village Politicians...
John Powell was recorded as a painter of figure subjects at the Chamberlains Worcester factory around 1800, before becoming an independent decorator working on Chamberlains, Nantgarw, Swansea and French porcelain blanks. He exhibited paintings on porcelain at the Royal Academy from 1811-30.
The Village Politicians was exhibited by Sir David Wilkie at the 1806 Royal Academy Exhibition, where it became hugely popular
