Lord Kitchener Interest:- a 19th Century Meerschaum Pipe, the bowl carved with a springbok and dated 1801, with amber stem and horn mouthpiece, said to have been a gift from Lord Kitchener to Corporal George Garibaldi Sanderson of the Notts and Derby Regiment after he practically single handedly captured 24 Boer soldiers including their Kommandant Kloppen. When he later related the incident to Lord Kitchener, Corporal Sanderson mentioned he had broken his pipe in the melee. The following day, the pipe was sent to him as a gift from Lord Kitchener. Sold together with a Mappin & Webb folding pocket knife made from a bullet engraved ''BLOEMFONTEIN'', a box of Bryant & Mays Braided Cigar Lights, and research material; also, a green glazed ceramic tile showing a portrait of Lord Kitchener of Khartoum, and a coloured lithograph after William Nicholson of Lord Kitchener mounted on the battlefield (from the series ''Twelve Portraits 1902''. Provenance:- from a descendant of Corporal Sanderson.

. The amber stem of the pipe is broken and the horn mouthpiece is quite chewed. The tile has cracks to the surface. The lithograph has had the margins trimmed
