Cello 29 7/8" two piece back, labelled 'Manufactured in Berlin Special Copy of Antonius Stradivarius' with letter 'L' in laurel wreath logo and hand written label 'Neck refitted Mr P Golledge 10.8.76' width of upper bout 13 1/2", middle 9 1/2" lower 17 1/4, depth of ribs 4 3/4" (cased)

Top has two cracks (repaired) approx 170mm from lower edge upwards on lower left side; some damage to purfling under back button; some damage to upper rib on treble side.

Back button has had some repair after break and some damage to purfling.

Upper treble rib has had a crack glued, glue joint has separated between rib and front.

Instrument has marks from age and general use.

Auction: Scientific & Musical Instruments, Cameras & Tools, 29th Sep, 2021

The sale includes a host or rare musical instruments including a fine Late 18th Century Cello made by Benjamin Banks of Salisbury in 1786 and a Violin by John Frederick Lott II (1804- 1870). Juxtaposed against the fine antique instruments, five first-edition guitars by Robson Guitars are also on offer. The Scientific section of the sale features a rare 19th century mechanical calculator, a small collection of rare miners’ lamps including an example of the Davy Mining Safety Lamp and several Private Collections including vintage cameras and lenses, vintage radios, antique woodworking tools, spirit levels and more.
