Skeletons/Anatomy: A Cased Duck-billed Platypus Skeleton (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), circa early 20th century, a complete natural skeletal reconstruction of an adult Duck-billed platypus in standing pose looking straight ahead, mounted upon an ebonised rectangualr base, enclosed beneath a five-glass table display case, 38.5cm by 16.5cm by 19cm overall.
The platypus, often referred to as the duck-billed platypus, is a semi-aquatic egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young
