The vendor states:

The letter from Bing Crosby was in response to a letter sent him by my mother Mary Mason who having seen he was visiting England offered him my deceased fathers Bing Crosby record collection. The letter was written on Wednesday 12th October which was the day he left England for a golfing holiday in Madrid, Spain. Tragically, whilst he was on this break, Bing Crosby died of a heart attack when walking the course after playing 18 holes on Saturday 14th October 1977.

It seems he had just completed a two week engagement at the London Palladium and then a final performance at Brighton on Monday 10th October. It would appear that the letter had been posted at the hotel with the franking being done on Saturday 14th October 1977 - the day he died.
