War Boutique (b.1965)
"Metropolitan Peace Combat Swimmer Vest" 2022
HGZ ballistic vest, neutral buoyancy, customised with Jacquard woven Metropolitan Peace patch, presented in a sealed Police evidence bag, 52cm by 54cm

Donated by the Artist

Before becoming an artist, #WarBoutique worked for a body armour company designing uniforms from fabrics specially formulated for the military and police.
His approach transforms materials, including military textiles, bulletproof ceramics, bullet shells and bomb blankets, into powerful artworks that embody social commentary. Central to his work is the idea of peace.
In 2009 he collaborated with @Banksy as part of his Banksy VS Bristol Museum exhibition, helping to create the uniform for an animatronic "Metropolitan Peace" officer in full riot gear, riding a children's carousel horse.
"Cities will always need policemen in some form, 'Metropolitan Peace' is a reminder of how delicate the balance of power is enshrined in these roles." WarBoutique.
His work speaks truth to power and challenges authority to be more accountable and transparent if it is truly to earn the trust of the communities it claims to serve.
During the #BanksyVSBristolMuseum exhibition, #WarBoutique released an edition of Metropolitan Peace Ballistic vests in collaboration with Banksy's gallery #PicturesOnWalls.

For the auction, he has donated a Metropolitan Peace Combat Swimmer Vest customised with Jacquard Woven Metropolitan Peace patches, front and back. The 2022 artwork will be dispatched in a sealed, notated Police evidence bag and measures 52cm by 54cm.
