An Extremely Fine and Rare Stainless Steel Wristwatch with Teardrop Lugs, signed Patek Philippe, Geneve, ref: 1503, movement no: 928904, case no: 635450, manufactured in 1946, sold with extract from the archives, (calibre 12-120) lever movement signed and numbered 928.904, brushed silvered dial with raised Arabic and dot markers, outer dot minute track, seconds dial, tear drop lugs, snap-on back numbered inside 635.450, Patek Philippe strap and a Patek Philippe 18ct white gold buckle, 35mm wide, with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming the year of manufacture 1946 and the subsequent date of sale on September 16th 1946 see illustrations

The Patek Philippe reference 1503 was made in the 1940's is one of the firms most attractive vintage time only models. The case is designed with tear drop lugs and the 35mm diameter case was bigger than other watches of that period. Several configurations of this reference are known including in stainless steel with gold tear drop lugs and all stainless steel case like this one. The most famous 1503 was a stainless steel example with a black dial and Breguet numerals worn by the famous Jewish activist, Nazi-hunter and writer Simon Wiesenthal which sold at auction for 385000CHF.

02.10.17, Case sides with very minor scratches, bezel edge with very minor dents visible under an eyeglass, watch has recently been to Patek Philippe in Switzerland for a service and new strap and a new Patek Philippe buckle, new Patek Philippe crown, The dial has been restored by Patek Philippe to a very high standard, hand setting correctly and winding smoothly, movement in going order, recently serviced by Patek Philippe.
