Britannia seated holding trident in left hand, olive branch in right, (S.3776), light contact marks and minor rim imperfections, otherwise pleasant burr toning, GVF; together with 24 x mixed copper, highlights include: 'Cartwheel' penny 1797, obv. and rev. as before, Fine; Charles II farthing obv. laureate bust left, rev. Britannia seated, Poor; 2 x Scotland: (1) Charles II bawbee obv. laureate bust left, rev. crowned thistle, Poor; and (2) William & Mary bodle 1693 obv. crowned WM monogram, rev. crowned thistle, chipped between 1 and 3 o'clock, near Fine; halfpennies, farthings including some Irish issues, mostly 18thcentury century with some Victoria, generally Poor to Fine

An interesting and eclectic mix of coins spanning over 1000 years of history will go under the hammer in Tennants Auctioneers’ Coins & Banknotes Sale on 15th February. Amongst the nearly 600 lots are rare and fine examples such as a Gold Proof Set issued in 1937 to mark the Coronation of George VI, an AE Drachm produced in Alexandria mint in the reign of the Ptolemy III Euergetes (246-221 BC), a Portuguese Joao V (1720-56) 4 Escudos (Peca) minted in Lisbon in 1727 and two consecutively numbered Bank of England white five pounds.
