Queen Victoria surface-printed used range, over fifty stamps, starting with the 1850s with usual range of postmark quality, the neatly cancelled examples including 1855 6d lilac wmk inverted (SG.70Wi, cat. £400) and 1/- green (SG.72, cat. £350), 1862-64 6d wmk inverted (SG.85Wi, cat. £475), 9d bistre and 1/- green, 1865 and 1876 9d straw wing-margin examples, 1873 6d grey cds, 1880 1/- orange-brown cds (SG.151, cat. £550), 1883 surcharges two each, plus the 1880-81 set to 5d indigo. Very few faults and good perfs throughout save a couple pulled on the 2/- pale blue.

261 lots including several exciting original collections fresh to the market. Highlights include a specialised collection of St. Helena stamps and postal history, and a very extensive and impressive holding of Russian postal history with a particular focus on the Post Offices Abroad. The latter collector’s interests also extended through the Baltics to excellent Scandinavian Locals, as well as around the Eastern Mediterranean from the Balkans to Palestine and Egypt.
Amongst the postcards offered in the sale are fantastic albums from a dedicated collector, of high-quality and comprehensively assembled, which include transport related cards of Leeds, Skipton, Lancaster, Teesside and Middlesbrough as well as excellent general Yorkshire cards.
