Queen Victoria surface-printed frankings to overseas destinations, 26 covers individually bought in auction many years ago, including 4d rose pair (SG.66b, off-cover single cat. £375) on 1860 cover to Brussels, 9d bistre (SG.86, cat. £1,200) on 1863 cover to Paris, 10d brown (SG.112, cat. £850) 1870 usage to New Zealand, 2/- blue (SG.119, cat. £700) combination with 1/- green on 1872 cover to India (roughly opened), other 1/- greens on transatlantic covers from 1850 onwards, as well as three 1871 covers to same Spanish address incl. 3d rose and 6d purple pairs, 6d grey plates 15 and 17 on covers to Australia, etc.

261 lots including several exciting original collections fresh to the market. Highlights include a specialised collection of St. Helena stamps and postal history, and a very extensive and impressive holding of Russian postal history with a particular focus on the Post Offices Abroad. The latter collector’s interests also extended through the Baltics to excellent Scandinavian Locals, as well as around the Eastern Mediterranean from the Balkans to Palestine and Egypt.
Amongst the postcards offered in the sale are fantastic albums from a dedicated collector, of high-quality and comprehensively assembled, which include transport related cards of Leeds, Skipton, Lancaster, Teesside and Middlesbrough as well as excellent general Yorkshire cards.
