Covered in a layer of surface dirt. The painting has had a re line, this is visible from the front to the outer edges where the new canvas is visible. There are areas of re touching throughout, in particular to the front of the mother's hair and to the right of this, to the right of the telegraph pole, to areas of her shawl, to the right of the road (below the pavement), to the left of the boy's arm and into his shoulder. There is a line to this area where there has been an old tear. Evidence of craquelure to areas of the sky, through the top of her shawl, a vertical line to the extreme left (possibly in line with an old stretcher shadow). Pin hole lower left corner and one upper right corner. A few tiny losses to the lower left corner and one to the right of the left telegraph pole. A line of old tearing through the shadow between the boy's legs. See extra images.
