Darren Baker "A Curie for Cancer" Signed, pastel and charcoal, 31cm by 19cm (58cm by 42cm framed)

‘The drawing pays tribute to the incredible physicist and the legacy and ongoing work of Marie Curie. Around the daffodil logo I inscribed love, belief, hope, science, heart and mind. What Marie Curie achieved through her brilliance was epoch making. The organisation founded in her name has saved and cared for millions of lives since its inception. We all sadly know family, or a friend touched by cancer. The work of Marie Curie is renowned and loved the world over. It’s palliative care from the teams of nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals gives beautiful quality of life to those nearing the end. The organisation and people who serve it show us the very best of humanity and the true kindness and love that can be found within us.’ Darren went to art school in Bradford. His first commission was to paint Billy Bremner the captain of Leeds Football Club. He went on to become Official Artist of the Professional Footballers Association. Having secured a loan from The Princes Trust Darren started his own business and went on to do portraits of Prince Charles and Her Majesty the Queen for the Royal British Legion, as well as famous politicians, sportsmen and actors. In 2005 he received the Yorkshire Young Achiever of the Year award. He was commissioned to paint the horses of the Royal Arabian Studs in Bahrain and was the official artist for the 2012 Olympic Games. A recent portrait before Marie Curie was of Sir Tom Moor.
