A Wood Cockade Fan with elaborately carved and shaped handles, these featuring scrolling leaves. The inner sticks are shaped to complement the handles but are otherwise plain. Overall height when extended 14.5 inches or 37cm. Together with a second cockade fan, this time the leaf folding to be contained within the handles, which fix together with a metal catch when the fan is open. The leaf, of white glazed cotton, has a decoratively cut edge, and is threaded with blue ribbon (not, however, a brisé fan). Note the fabric or leather covering the handles, embossed with gold fans against a black ground, this fan design repeated on the central button recto/verso. Overall height when open 13.75 inches or 34cm. Finally, an Italian olive wood souvenir cockade fan of the type produced in Sorrento, late 19th century, this example painted with a lady in local costume, dancing, and "Ricordo" (souvenir) on the verso. On pulling the upper cord a cockade paper fan emerges, with a light design of flowers and a scrolling border. The leaf retracts when the lower cord is pulled (3)

Sold for £80
Estimated at £70 - £100

. Fan 1, good, the remains of a paper price label still present. Fan 2, good. Fan 3 good, but the cord used to close the fan is lacking (does retract with a gentle push.)
