Three 19th Century Miser's or Stocking Purses, using three different styles. The first, a small woven beaded example, and fairly heavy, uses shades of blue contrasting with strong mustard and maroon for the larger designs. Fitted at each end with a gold metal decoration resembling a drooping flower, the purse benefits from two ornate gold metal rings that serve as closures. In contrast, the second purse is as light as a feather and worked in stripes of red, cream, black and ruby, finished with ornate decoration and plainer gold metal rings. Finally, a large miser's purse, formed in bands, a plain black centre meeting bands of crochet? Quite frilly in appearance due to the scalloped cream edge to the bands of shaded dark pink to soft rose. One end of the purse is gently rounded, the other straight, allowing the owner to determine in which end they had placed which value of coin. Both ends finished in shiny silver cut metal beads, worked in three bands of different shapes and beads (3)

Sold for £120
Estimated at £90 - £120

. in good strong order, the final example lacking a few of the long silver metal beads at the straight end.
