Taxidermy: A Late Victorian Cased European Otter (Lutra lutra), circa 1844-1917, by James Gardner, Bird & Animal Preserver, 29, Late 426 Oxford Street, London, a full mount adult Otter with head turning to the right with mouth agape, a Roach fish prey underfoot, stood upon a large painted faux rock ledge, amidst a natural setting of grasses, reeds and fauna, enclosed within a period ebonised single-glass display case, 81.5cm by 31cm by 66cm, bearing taxidermist's full paper trade label to verso.

The company of James Gardner was known as a purveyor of very high quality diorama cases and held Royal Warrants for Her Majesty Queen Victoria, The Royal Families of England & France and His Highness The Khedive of Egypt, thus establishing their name in the annals of taxidermy history.
