The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - A First/Second World War Knights Commanders (KBE) Group, awarded to Engineer Lieutenant (later Rear Admiral) Sydney Oswell Frew, Royal Navy, comprising KBE Star and Neck Badge in Garrard & Co Ltd case of issue, Naval General Service Medal (1909-1962) with clasp PERSIAN GULF 1909-1914 (271978 S.O.FREW. E.R.A.4CL. H.M.S. PERSEUS), 1914-15 Star (271978 S.O.FREW, E.R.A.3, R.N.), British War Medal and Victory Medal (ENG.LT.), Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal, Jubilee Medal 1935 and Coronation Medal 1937, court mounted, with medal ribbon bar and miniatures including Most Honourable Order of the Bath KCB neck badge and the Order of Orange-Nassau, court mounted, together with his black silk bicorn hat, pair of bullion epaulettes, three pairs of shoulder boards, gold lace and leather waist belt with sword slings, all contained in japanned tin case, and with a portrait photograph of the above as a young man taken in 1911, a photograph of the Hulk HMS Tenedos on which he trained, and two photographs of K12 and K14 - the submarines he served in; also, a Victoria 1837-1897 bronze medal in leather case of issue.

Footnote : - Sir Sydney Oswell Frew was the first officer in the navy to have risen to the rank of Engineer Rear Admiral from Engine Room Artificer. He was a submariner. Born in Kingston-upon-Hull 1890, died Hampstead 1972.
