Antlers/Horns: European Fallow Deer (Cervus dama dama), dated 1980, Boldre Wood, New Forest, Hampshire, well formed adult buck antlers on cut upper skull cap, widest spread 26'', height 24'', mounted upon a Rowland Ward style shaped oak shield, bearing identification plaque. Annie recalls ''We bought this head from the butcher in the town of Lyndhurst when we lived in the New Forest, we visited the butcher to buy venison sausages. Ray used to tell him that he didn't really want the sausages but yearned for the antlers in the shop !. After frequenting the shop on many occasions the butcher finally gave in and said you can have the bl__dy antlers!. These are the same antlers Nigel Grist, a dear friend carried up to the grave after Ray passed away, placed on the coffin and brought them home again, so they made a farewell to Ray on his final journey''.
