A Coalport Porcelain Exhibition Quality Large Two-Handled Pedestal Vase and Cover, made for the 1862 Exhibition, of Persian influence, the domed fluted cover on a cupped neck, semi-gadrooned, the neck and shoulders with bands of Islamic style mihrabs, flowers and tendrils, with reeded downswept handles, the main body with a band of florets and cabochons moulded in high relief over a front and reverse shaped oval panel, painted by R F Abraham, one painted in puce en camaieu with a winged maiden holding cherubs flanked by an owl after Thorwaldsen, the opposite panel with a detailed spray of diverse flowers amongst silk ribbons, within gilt frames against a sky blue ground with floral repeat Persian influenced foliage, on a short fluted stem and square conforming foot, the inside of the cover with gilded "ampersand" mark, the main vase unmarked (vestiges of green paper label inscribed LONDON), 78cm high

The cover knop restored and regilded. The main vase with slight rubbing of gilding on the rim of the neck. One handle has a hairline crack (possibly when fired) towards the very bottom of it, approximately 8cm before it meets the short stem. There is rubbing of the angles of the foot (grazing and gilding loss mainly). Otherwise, apart from very minor rubbing of gilding and slight glaze scuffing, the piece is in very good overall state. 190911
