Nelly: A Large Late 19th Century Wood Brisé Fan, the rounded guards both stained a deeper shade, and tipped and tailed with white metal, used also for the name "Nelly", applied to the upper guard. The sticks have autographs in pencil, various dates noted as 1877, 1878 and 1880. The white metal loop is fitted with cord and an oval metal ring to facilitate closure. Twenty-five inner sticks and two guards. Guard length approx. 10 inches or 25.5cm. Together with A Small Ivory Brisé Fan, the stick tips rounded, the shaped loop of ivory. Thirteen inner sticks and two guards. Guard length approx. 7 inches or 17.5cm. Contained in a cream card fan box covered in cream silk, with J Duvelleroy 167 Regent Street London written in gold inside the lid. (2)

. Nelly, some rubbing to the coating on the guards at the side. One inner stick split at the top but holding, the adjacent stick lacking a small section of wood. Ribbon sound, as is the ribbon on the ivory brisé. The box exterior is stained and foxed and the silk splitting on the corners.
