Footnote : - Private Edward Raymond Elliot of 1st Battalion The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) was awarded the DCM on 22nd July 1943. The recommendation for the award reads "For conspicuous gallantry and determination at the QUADI AKARIT on 6th April 1943. Pte. Elliot's section had taken part in the counter-attack against the enemy just before dark and had occupied a forward postition well in advance of our line. At 2300 hrs. the section was attacked by an enemy patrol of not less then 25 men. Although all of his section were killed or wounded, Pte. Elliot continued to hold his slit trench and to throw grenades at the enemy. When relieved by his Coy Comd. shortly afterwards, Pte. Elliott was still engaging the enemy and it is known that he had killed 6 of them. By his courageous and determined action in face of overwhelming numbers, Pte. Elliot held this post single handed until assistance came." This was reported in the Supplement to the London Gazette, 22 July, 1943, Page 3314
