Country House Sale

Lot 577

577

Wilson Hepple (1854-1937)
Two tabby kittens playing on a desk with inkstand, a candlestick and a wax sealed letter
Signed and dated 1915, watercolour, 25cm by 36cm

Sold for £480
Estimated at £200 - £300

There is a low-level convex undulation to the middle right side of the paper. No tears or creases. There is a line of rubbing and transfer of gesso and gold from contact with the slip, mostly along the bottom edge. There is minor micro-cracking to some of the glossy dark low-lights such as the candle wick, the kitten's eyes and touches in the fur, and one tiny pinpoint loss to the ear of the lower kitten. There has been some fading of the colours, evidenced by a line of brighter, more vivid paint just visible at the edge.

We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a condition report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition.

Our Condition Reports are not prepared by professional conservators, restorers or engineers, and are prepared with the naked eye unless otherwise stated.

Works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. We accept no liability for the opinions expressed in any Condition Report.
