A Fine And Rare 'Artistic Painter' Musical Automaton, By Gustave Vichy

French, circa 1890, playing two airs from direct-drive cylinder musical movement, the chair-back seated artistic gentleman, sketching in his book, with painted head and hands, goatee fashioned beard and mustache, wearing a black hat, holding his book in left hand, a pencil in the other, moving right leg up and over whilst drawing, head down and across, posed upon upright chair with white frame and black finished infills containing the movement, later plaque with automaton title and date 1875[sic], dressed in black jacket with other period satin and silk garments, his lapel bearing painter's palette broach - 36in. (91.5cm) high

Deterioration to clothing from age/use (fraying and fading), hands have cracks on fingers but are complete, overall Good

The sale includes rare and interesting pieces of musical interest, including a Lochmann 'Original Musik Automat' Coin-Operated 17-Inch Upright Disk Musical Box, an 'Minor Overture' Key-Wind Musical Box, and a good E.M.G. Mark XB Overize Horn Gramaphone. Also of note in the sale is a John B Dancer Microscope, a collection of Mining Lamps, and a large and varied collection of LP's from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
