A Good George III Eight Day Dutch Striking Alarm Table Clock with Moonphase Display, signed Paul Rimbault, London, circa 1770, fruitwood veneered case with an inverted bell top pediment, brass carrying handle, glass side panels, two cords for pull repeat and pull-wind alarm set, 7-inch arched brass dial with a silvered chapter ring with a Dutch arcaded minute track, strike/not strike selection lever at 9, matted dial centre with date aperture and signed on a arched silvered plaque, central alarm disc, floral painted arch with a moonphase lunar display aperture, twin fusee movement with a verge escapement, Dutch striking on two bells, elaborately engraved movement backplate with scroll decoration, 51cm high over handle see illustrations
Paul Rimbault is a maker of highly specialised clocks working in London at 9 Denmark St, St. Giles's from about 1770 until his death in 1785. Paul Rimbault and his brother Stephen were famous clockmakers of Huguenot descent. They are known for making complicated and unusual clocks with musical, carillon and Dutch striking mechanisms. Some of Paul Rimbault's clocks are exhibited in museums and collections around the world.

15.10.19 Case with small cracks to veneers and small chips in parts, inverted pediment with joints very slightly lifting, the case finish would have been ebonised over the fruitwood veneers and signs of the ebonising is still visible, dial chapter ring with slight staining marks, movement backplate with some small vacant holes, movement appears to have been converted from knife-edge pendulum to a suspension spring, in going order, functions are working, 51cm high over handle, 26cm wide, 16.5cm depth
