~ A Good Chinoiserie Drop Dial Tavern Clock, signed Mark Hawkins, Bury St Edmunds, mid-18th century, the elaborate case with oriental gilt painted scenes depicting pagodas, figures, birds and floral decoration, topside of the trunk signed Mark Hawkins St Edmunds Bury, arched trunk door, 24-inch wide arched dial with a gilt painted Roman and Arabic chapter, gilt scroll decorated spandrels, large brass hands, turned gilt wooden finials, single weight driven A-framed movement with an anchor escapement, 158cm high see illustration

15.10.19 Case is nicely aged, chinoiserie decoration has been restored in the past but along time ago and to a high standard, gilt decoration is faded in parts, surfaces with crazing marks due to shrinkage, case with chips and scratches and some signs of old repair marks. possibly later finials, movement in going order, with pendulum and weight, from the Eric Morton clock collection, there is no restoration information available, case at the widest part 77cm wide, base measurement 35cm, depth 20cm, height 158cm
