A Pair of Staffordshire Pottery Figures of Tom Cribb and Tom Molyneux, circa 1815, each modelled bare-chested with fists raised, standing beside a post, on oval grassy mound bases, 23.5cm high
The boxing match between Cribb and Molyneux is one of the most famous sporting events of the 19th century when Tom Cribb, the most famous bare-knuckle fighter of his time, fought Tom Molyneux, a former Virginian slave and son of America's first black pugelist. Molyneux arrived in England in 1803 and the fight took place in 1810 at Copthorne near East Grinstead; Cribb winning the fight after 39 rounds.
