Paris: Lucien Vogel chez Jules Meynial, no date [1934], numbered limited edition of 500 copies (plus 220 hors commerce), folio, stitch-bound text volume and fifty chromolithographed plates, loose as issued, each preserved in original portfolio with title to front board and cloth ties. A little foxing to front leaf of plate fifty, otherwise contents generally VG, portfolio worn and dust marked with faint pencil sketch.
The scenes were recorded by the Russian artist when appointed 'artistic director' on the Trans-Asia 'Yellow' expedition in 1931-32. The expedition was organised by Citroen to promote their vehicles. There is a focus on the inhabitants of the countries through which he travelled. These include Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Xinjiang and Vietnam.
