The Mammals of Great Britain and Ireland, London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1904. 3 volumes, large 4to, original navy-blue quarter buckram, mid-blue cloth sides, top edges gilt, limitation leaves, half-titles, title-pages in red and black, 243 photogravure, colour, chromolithographic or halftone plates after G. E. Lodge, Archibald Thorburn, the author and others or from photographs, bookplates of Eric Hosking, spines sunned, slightly rubbed or frayed at head and foot, a few marks to sides, occasional light spotting to margins of photogravure and chromolithographic plates, the latter faintly offset in places, plate facing volume 2 p. 52 with tissue-guard removed (qty: 3)

First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author 'To G. E. Lodge, with the author's best wishes to his old friend, J. Millais, November 19th 1904' on the initial blank of volume one, and subsequently inscribed below by Lodge, 'Eric Hoskings [sic], Geo. E. Lodge'. A total of 1025 numbered sets were printed; each volume in this set is number 4.

To include the Library, Pictures and Camera Collection of Eric Hosking OBE Hon. FRPS FBIPP (1909-1991). Eric Hosking is a name which will require little introduction for ornithology enthusiasts. The first professional bird photographer, he photographed over 1,800 species, and his pictures have appeared in some 1,000 books, including the popular New Naturalist series, of which he was photographic editor. To complement his library, Eric Hosking also built a fine collection of pictures by leading 20th century wildlife artists including Archibald Thorburn, Keith Shackleton and C. F. Tunnicliffe. The sale of his photographic equipment provides an unmissable opportunity to own a remarkable array of high-quality cameras, lenses and other apparatus by manufacturers including Contarex, Hasselblad and Zeiss, and will give skilled users the chance of recreating his photographic feats.
