Portrait of Sir John Wingfield of Tickencote Knight (1592-1631), half length, wearing robes and a powdered wig
Extensively inscribed on a later typed label attached to the reverse, oil on canvas, 76.5cm by 63.5cm
Sir John Wingfield married in 1618 Jane, the daughter of Sir William Turpine of Knaptoft, Leicestershire, but she died and was buried at Tickencote. He married secondly Frances, elder daughter of Edward, third baron Cromwell of Oakham in 1619. The younger daughter Ann married at Tickencote Sir Edward Wingfield.....
The present painting dates to the 18th century and therefore is possibly taken from an earlier engraving
