♦Henry VIII, (1509-1547), Silver Groat, York Ecclesiastical Mint, second coinage, profile type with Laker bust D, mm voided cross; obv. hEnRIC VIII (D) G R AGL Z FRANC around crowned & draped bust facing right, larger squarer face with hair above collar, crown arch within beaded circle, rev. CIVITAS EBORACI around long cross fourchée over quartered royal shield dividing ‘T’ ‘W’ (Archbishop Thomas Wolsey), cardinal’s hat below shield, saltire stops; wt. 2.71g, minor v-shaped edge nick at 12 o’clock, & a couple of letters in legends not struck up o/wise full, round, well struck flan with clear legends & good bust detail, an attractive AVF to VF.
