. original canvas with two patch repairs to reverse and associated retouching to the front. there is further significant retouching and overpainting throughout the right side of gentlemans moustache, beard, right hand side of face in general and background. approx 15 by 15cm in addition to the majority of his hair and far left hand side of his face outline of ear extending to a degree of the background. further patch of less consistant overpainting in the panelling in the background upper right hand side of figure. some possible lighter strengthening to jacket highly discoloured varnish has also cracked and seperated in a pronounced fashion across surface. other areas of less significant stable craquelerue to face for examle. surface dirt. canvas loose in stretcher and buckling to top corners. minor rubbing to edges.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
