The gentleman: Re-lined, cleaned, re-varnished there is little indicating repainting or over paint under a uv lamp but it is highly likely that some remedial work has been made whilst not particularly determinable. The central inscription along the lower edge appears to have been added/strengthened. covered in a layer of dirt and discoloured varnish the paint somewhat flat and thin in places, fine stable craquelure throughout, superficial diagonal surface scratch approx 5cm in length below his right arm, further small scratch approx 0.5mm at his right cuff, minor rubbing to edges, stable condition. She: Re-lined, cleaned, re-varnished, general re-touching to edges and odd small other re-touches within the background and lower edge which are visible with the eye, the shadowing around her face is likely to be later. There is little other later re-touching evident with the uv lamp but it is possible that some has been made, the inscription to central edge, possibly strengthened lifting and flaked paint to lower right hand side and to a lesser degree lower left hand side, surface slightly flattened paint is thin in places, fine stable craquelure throughout the remaining picture, surface dirt, discoloured varnish.
