A George II Silver Lady's Tankard, by Edward Pocock, London, 1729 or 1731, tapering cylindrical and on spreading base, the hinged cover with scroll thumbpiece, engraved with a lozenge-of-arms, the handle later engraved with initials 'R' over 'S*B' and dated 1746, 15cm high, 15oz 17dwt

The arms are those of Swan impaling another, possibly for Judith, wife of Sir William Swan, 2nd Bt. of Hook Place, Southfleet. Sir William died in 1712, having succeeded his father as 2nd Baronet in 1680. Given the diminutive size of the present tankard and that the arms are engraved in a lozenge as used by a widow Judith seems a possible candidate as the original owner of the present tankard.

. Fully marked near handle and inside cover. The handle with maker's mark only. There is some wear to the date letter both near handle and inside cover. The date letter could be either the O for 1729 or the Q for 1731. The maker's mark on the handle is partly rubbed. There is a small split to the rim and some discolouration below the rim. There has been a small repair to the thumbpiece. Overall a nice patina.
