Erudite collection of 23 covers/cards written-up on exhibition pages, explaining the various postmarks used for the East Central, West Central and Western Districts and Lombard Street Branch, 1850s through to early machine cancelations to 1908. Includes various late fees incl. with 1d reds, 1d red cover to Ireland with unrecorded code 5 with E.C.78 duplex used a month before recorded period of use, another 1d red cover with MSED in segmented circle (Missorted to South Eastern Office), cds code 11 unrecorded duplex with W.C.1 on 2½d blue on 1883 cover to New York, etc. A further 25 loose items, mainly postal stationery/wrappers incl.1906 machine cancel on commercial ballot paper addressed to Messrs Arthur Guinness, also circular 'Too Late - G.P.O.' on 1857 1d red cover, etc. Additionally a study of the 1890 Uniform Penny Post jubilee written-up on pages with some unusual items incl. caricature.
