A Set of Six English Porcelain Armorial Dinner Plates, probably Coalport, circa 1830, painted with the crest of a greyhound seizing a hare over a ribbon inscribed with the motto GRATA SUME MANU for the Brisco family within a claret border with foliate panels highlighted in gilt and gadrooned rim

It would seem that the Brisco family arrived in England at the time of the Norman Conquest when a company of lancers from Brisgau in Swabia accompanied William during the Conquest. The family later had holdings in Wigton in Cumberland, St Kitts and Maryland

One with a small rim chip. Another with a hair crack. No other damage and free from repair. Some scratches to the ground colours and other typical wear. Some very tight and feint glaze crazing. Unmarked.
