A Wedgwood Blue Jasper Portrait Plaque of Josiah Wedgwood, late 18th/19th century, after a model by William Hackwood, modelled in high relief, impressed uppercase mark, inscribed in pencil January 3 1795, oval, 10.5cm by 8.2cm, in a gilt metal frame mounted in a plush lined glazed giltwood and gesso frame

William Hackwood was one of the longest serving employees of Josiah Wedgwood, who described him as "an ingenious boy" when he was engaged by him in 1769, and in letters to Bentley discusses the fact that Hackwood initialled some of his plaques, and examples of the current plaque are to be found initialled WH
