"Ewe and Lambs"
Signed in pencil and inscribed, linocut printed in colours, together with three further linocuts by the artist "Swans", "Piglings", "Thrushes Nest" and another linocut depicting a dragonfly, each approximately 27.5cm by 20.5cm (5)

Doris Boulton was a pupil at Burslem School of Art, Stoke on Trent. She went onto study at the Royal College of Art from 1916-1921 and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1918-1921. She travelled to Palestine on an archaeological expedition between 1924-1931, producing landscape prints throughout the duration. Upon her return to London she briefly studied at the Slade School of Art. She married Lionel Maude, son of Aylmer and Louise Maude (Tolstoy's authorised translators) and then went onto exhibit as Doris Boulton-Maude at the New English Art Club, Redfern Gallery, Society of Women Artists, Royal Society of British Artists and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. She lived in Great Baddow, Essex and in 1995-6. The Chelmsford Museums Service organised a travelling exhibition of her works. Both they and the Central St Martin's Museum and Study Collection hold a body of her works.
