A Stanley Webb Davies Oak Writing Desk, 1912, the upper section with two leaded glazed sliding doors over a fall front with fitted interior, the base with two open compartments and two drawers enclosed by a cupboard, 78cm by 49cm, 130cm; and A Stanley Webb Davies Oak Workshop Sign, 1923, of triangular section, carved STANLEY.W.DAVIES M.A CRAFTSMAN WOODWORKER NEW ROAD WINDERMERE, heightened in gilt, 68cm (2)

At sixteen Davies won first prize for woodwork with this desk at Bootham School, it was judged to be "of good quality and was quite the best thing in the show...it is accurate in its fitting and a neatly executed piece of furniture".

With key. The desk has been used, with various sections of damage: top section with two cut marks to right hand side panel and various scratches and split approx 15cm long running from the foot upwards. Left hand panel with small minor? split running from the base section. Bruising and scuffs to this end panel. Each end panel with later screws added to run parallel to the pull-out lopers. Fall with replaced section of oak timber where the hinges are fitted. Small split around left hinge. Interior with various ink stains. Replaced? handle to the smaller drawer, the backplate is a flowerhead design which is different to the other three stylised examples. 230714
